Caroline Street Residence, Wellesley, MA.
This 3,600-square-foot residence in Wellesley is nestled in a wooded area overlooking a public park, where thousands of local visitors spend time connecting with nature daily. The design of this project presented a challenging contradiction: opening its living spaces to the park and nature while maintaining the privacy of its occupants from park visitors walking less than 20 feet away.

The second level, clad in red cedar, provides the exterior covering for the house's bedrooms and private areas, while large glazed apertures allow light and nature to be a constant presence in the interior open spaces. A continuous ribbon window splits the volumes of the ground and second floor, enabling 360-degree views of the surrounding park while preserving a sense of privacy.

The house volumes were positioned to maintain the existing trees on the site and integrate the building into the landscape, rather than the other way around.
